Clearance on third party recordings

When we have sales, it is almost always on products from our “in house” labels. But this week, for the first time in over 5 years, we are having a sale on all non-Gothic Catalog labels (choral and organ!). Choose from artists like The Dale Warland Singers on ACC, The Wells Cathedral Choir on Priory, Clyde Holloway on Pro Organo, The National Lutheran Choir and many more. This sale is limited to stock on hand, and many of these are out of print elsewhere.

This may be your last chance to collect and own many of these titles!

Carole Terry in Schwerin (2 CDs)

The 1871 84-rank Ladegast organ in the Schwerin Cathedral is the quintessential instrument for this splendid 2-CD set. The favored organ builder of Liszt and Ruebke, this is the largest Ladegast still in existence -- and it is in original condition. Enhanced by cathedral acoustics, this is perhaps the finest venue in the world for the 19th-century German organ works played here (Topfer, Rheinberger, Reubke, Ritter, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and others).

The Organ Loft - March 27, 2011
Music for Bells
Webcast and Broadcast Schedule

This week on the Organ Loft, we're featuring a program about bells and organ/choral works which include bells or bell themes. Roger Sherman includes a work for bells and organ from the mid-1400s and played on an organ from the same period. Also some Bach organ works played on handbells, and Stephen Kennedy’s new work 3-3-33; written for the inauguration of the new organ at Eastman, it includes extensive parts for the glockenspiel stop and zimbelstern. The program concludes with an unusual version of Dupre’s Cortege and Litany, which most people know as an organ work. There was also a version for orchestra which unlike the organ solo version, included bells. We will hear the orchestral version (with bells) transcribed for organ, and played by Peter Conte on the Wanamaker organ.

A somewhat unusual program — even for us. We hope you enjoy.

Program
  1. J.S. Bach: Allegro from Sonata V in E-flat, BWV 5251
  2. Conrad Paumann: Redeuntes in mi2
  3. Henry Purcell: “Rejoice in the Lord Always” ('The Bell Anthem')3
  4. Antonio Vivaldi: Allegro (3rd movement) of Concerto in A minor, Op. 3 No. 84

  6. J.S. Bach: Von Gott will ich nicht lassen, BWV 6584
  7. Ralph Vaughn Williams: Three Shakespeare Songs6

Today we want to share a video we created featuring Hans Davidsson's recording, "Buxtehude and the Schitger Organ", which is the third volume of Buxtehude's complete organ works.

Buxtehude's visit with Arp Schnitger in Hamburg in 1687 began an association that lasted for many years and resulted in the building of the four manual organ at the Cathedral in Lübeck, as well as modifications to the organ at Saint Marien. As there are limited details regarding registrations for Buxtehude's music, Hans Davidsson explores the encounter between the music and the four manual organ in Göteborg, Sweden to bring new perspectives to his performance on this final volume of the complete works of Buxtehude.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! What better way is there to celebrate than by listening to The Great Organ of Saint Patrick's Cathedral?

GREAT ORGAN OF ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL, New York City
Donald Dumler, organist

This organ CD is always in our best-sellers list, year after year. With both popular and unusual works in his progam, Cathedral Organist Donald Dumler strikes just the right balance of musical choices.

Both the Chancel and Grand Gallery Organs were built by Kilgen, and are controlled by two new "twin" five-manual consoles. With 177 stops and over 9,000 pipes, the organ is both a grand musical statement, and a priceless antique whose sounds evoke the ideals of organbuilding in the 1920's.

Bach: Toccata & Fugue in D Minor
Bach: Ich ruf' zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ
Clarke: Trumpet Voluntary
Creston: Prelude from Suite for Organ
Clokey: Pastorale
Edmundson: Vom Himmel Hoch
Handel: Largo from "Xerxes"
Durufle: Prelude & Fugue on ALAIN
Jongen: Choral
Daniel-Lesur: In Paradisum
Massenet: Meditation from "Thais"
Elgar: Pomp & Circumstance, No. 1

The mission of The Gothic Catalog is to generate enthusiasm and literacy in classical music, particular music for organs and choirs. The Gothic Catalog with Loft Recordings publishes recordings, produces a weekly radio program (The Organ Loft), provides recording services for artists, and offers recordings for sale through http://gothic-catalog.com and a mail order catalog.

The Gothic Catalog:
Loft Recordings was founded in 1999; in 2001, Loft purchased the assets of Gothic Records, a company which had been producing great organ and choral recordings for almost 25 years. Loft established "The Gothic Catalog" as a mail-order webstore where recordings from both companies could be showcased, alongside other recordings from third-party labels. In June 2008, we acquired Clarion Records, a record label which features semi-professional American choirs and a large catalog of world premier choral recordings. And in 2009 we became the exclusive publisher and distributor of recordings from the Washington National Cathedral.
