Just about every classical music organization in town is active during the last part of October, so you have a variety of choices of what to attend. Famed violinist Joshua Bell visits Kansas City with the Harriman-Jewell Series, and The Friends of Chamber Music presents the Pavel Haas String Quartet. Fans of orchestral music can attend performances by the Chicago Symphony Orhestra and the Kansas City Symphony, the Northland Symphony Orchestra, and the Kansas City Civic Orchestra, as well as the Mid America Freedom Band, for those interested in wind ensembles. Choral music enthusiasts, meanwhile, can enjoy the Kansas City Chorale, Musica Sacra, and Te Deum, along with a choral performance sponsored by the Midwest Chamber Ensemble. Opera fans can enjoy Hänsel und Gretel with the UMKC Conservatory, and newEar Contemporary Music Ensemble will perform contemporary compositions.
