Emmanuel Chabrier, Composer
(1841-1894). French composer. Chabrier trained for the legal profession, and then worked many years in government, with music being an avocation. Once his operetta "L'Etoile" was performed to great success in 1877, music increasingly became his focus. Two years later, Chabrier attended a performance of Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde", and he then decided to devote himself fully to music.
