Oregon Bach Festival - Monteverdi: Vespers of 1610
Portland, Oregon
Friday, 27 June 2014 - 7:00 PM
Claudio Monteverdi's monumental Vespro della Beata Vergine was a bold opening salvo of the Baroque era, and it's a brilliant beginning for Matthew Halls' first season as OBF's artistic director. A grand synthesis of styles ranging from plainchant and polyphony to operatic arias and dance forms, it unites new and old, intimate and grandiose, in a work of musical architecture as stunning today as it was four centuries ago. Halls conducts massive forces including six guest soloists, orchestra, a chorus divided into as many as ten parts, and the noble sounds of His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts.
