The sensational mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and the Baroque orchestra Il Pomo d'Oro will perform In War & Peace: Harmony Through Music, presented by the Harriman-Jewell Series. The evening's program in two parts, "War" and "Peace," will explore the dichotomy of discord and harmony in times of war. In War & Peace was also released as an album on November 4 to complement an international tour.
"In the midst of chaos, how do you find peace?" This overarching question from DiDonato is directed to anyone worldwide who wishes to share an answer at the "In War & Peace" website.
Prairie Village, Kansas native Joyce DiDonato entrances audiences across the globe and has been proclaimed “perhaps the most potent female singer of her generation” by the New Yorker. With a voice “nothing less than 24-carat gold” according to The Times, DiDonato has soared to the top of the industry both as a performer and a fierce advocate for the arts, gaining international prominence in operas by Handel and Mozart, as well as through her wide-ranging, acclaimed discography.
Italian chamber orchestra Il Pomo d'Oro was founded in 2012 with a special focus on opera, but is equally committed to instrumental performance in various formations. The musicians led by principal conductor and harpsichordist Maxim Emelyanychev are among the best worldwide for authentic and vivid interpretation on period instruments.
