Celebration: The Legacy of Bob Brookmeyer

The great composer and arranger Bob Brookmeyer taught at NEC from 1997 to 2007, and created NEC's Jazz Composers' Workshop Orchestra.

Ken Schaphorst conducts the NEC Jazz Orchestra in a concert of Brookmeyer's music, with the participation of five of his former NEC students, including a 150th Anniversary commission by Doris Duke Artist Darcy James Argue '02 M.M. Argue was a Doris Duke Artist Award recipient in 2015.

Music by NEC alumni Ayn Inserto, Mehmet Ali Sanlikol, and Nicholas Urie will also be featured. Saxophonist, low reed expert and NEC alumnus Brian Landrus will be featured playing Brookmeyer’s “Celebration Suite.”

Welcome to NEC at 150! Every generation of musicians remake and change New England Conservatory. Some, like Gunther Schuller, continue to influence our music beyond their lifetimes. Others contribute for decades, pushing the sense of what's possible by their own examples.
