NEC Chamber Orchestra
Boston, Massachusetts
Wednesday, 7 February 2018 - 7:30 PM
Conductor: Donald Palma
NEC's conductorless chamber orchestra performs works by Veress, Mozart, and Stravinsky.

Directed by NEC bass faculty and founding member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Donald Palma, the NEC Chamber Orchestra consists of a select group of students who work together to perform some of the most beloved works from the chamber orchestra repertoire...and without a conductor!

Sándor Veress was both a student and assistant to Béla Bartók, and much like his teacher had done, Veress took inspiration from styles related to traditional Hungarian dances when he wrote his "Transylvanian Dances" for string orchestra. Igor Stravinsky's "Apollon musagète" was composed as a ballet, centered around the Greek god of music, Apollo, and three of his muses. The concert will also include the performance of a piano concerto, featuring the winner of the Chamber Orchestra's piano concerto competition.

Please also join us for the last Chamber Orchestra concert of the season on April 25, 2018, featuring a collaboration with A Far Cry.

Welcome to NEC at 150! Every generation of musicians remake and change New England Conservatory. Some, like Gunther Schuller, continue to influence our music beyond their lifetimes. Others contribute for decades, pushing the sense of what's possible by their own examples. The entire season is stuffed with chances to see the NEC legacy in exceptional, infectious, passionate action. Don't miss them!
