Boléro!
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Saturday, 18 January 2020 - 8:00 PM
Sunday, 19 January 2020 - 2:30 PM
Conductor: Manfred Honeck
A Night of Passion and Virtuosity

It begins softly. A single snare drum. Then, a flute. Gradually, each instrument of the Pittsburgh Symphony joins in. One after the other. Until Ravel’s “Bolero” reaches one of the greatest climaxes in all of music. Also, Seong-Jin Cho, the First Prize winner of the International Chopin Competition, plays Liszt’s blistering Second Piano Concerto. “Unequivocally brilliant,” says The Telegraph of Seong-Jin Cho. And Bartok’s dazzling Concerto for Orchestra will showcase the virtuosity of the Pittsburgh Symphony under Music Director Manfred Honeck.

A pre-concert talk, beginning one hour prior to the performance in the auditorium, will be led by Jim Cunningham of WQED. This talk is open to all ticketholders.

Immediately following the concert, join us for an on-stage performance from Tyzen Hsiao’s Selections for Violin and Piano based on Taiwanese Folk Song, featuring Ellen Chen-Livingston, violin and Rodrigo Ojeda, piano. You are encouraged to move closer to the stage to enjoy this special performance!

Additionally, pianist Seong-Jin Cho will be signing autographs in the Grand Lobby following the concert.
