Balancing a tremendously busycareer of recital engagements, a full calendar of chamber music concerts andholding the post of Acting Concertmaster with the San Antonio Symphonyorchestra since the 2007 season, Mr. Torgul is a well rounded and much soughtafter musician. Since joining the San Antonio Symphony in 1995 as its AssociateConcertmaster, Mr. Torgul has appeared regularly with the orchestra as asoloist performing some of the masterpieces of the violin repertoire. His most recentperformance of the Korngold concerto earned him raving reviews.

His chamber music and recitalperformances have taken him to prestigious locations such as Paris, Vienna,Monte Carlo, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Rio De Janeiro, San Francisco, San Diego andMiami where he performed with renowned individuals and groups such as WilliamPreucil, Jean Yves Thibaudet, Michael Tilson Thomas, Miami String Quartet, FryStreet Quartet, Degas Quartet and many others. Torgul has been a member of theSOLI Chamber Ensemble since 1996. The group, which specializes in contemporaryrepertoire has been selected “best ensemble” two years in a row and made the“Top 10” performances list by San Antonio Express news. Included in his busychamber music calendar Mr. Torgul regularly performs with Camerata San Antonio,Music at the Mission in Freemont California as well as Music at Market in SanJose California. Mr. Torgul is a founding member of the critically acclaimedSUONO Duo with renowned pianist Aileen Chanco and also is a founding member of“Quinteto Quilombo” a Tango Quintet specializing in “Tango Nuevo”. Mr. Torgulis also a former member of the Plymouth String Quartet. The Florida basedquartet received first prize in the Prix Mercure Wettbewerb in Vienna, secondprize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and was a finalist inthe Paolo Borciani String Quartet Competition in Italy.

Torgul started his violin studiesat the Ankara State Conservatory at the age of twelve with Prof. Nuri Ceken.Later he was entered in the “Special status” program designed for giftedstudents where he studied violin with Professor Suna Kan, one of Turkey’spremier soloists. After receiving his Bachelor of Music Degree in 1987 Mr.Torgul moved to the United States and continued his studies with WilliamBarbini, Concertmaster of the Sacramento Symphony. He was a member of theSacramento Symphony for two years before he went to Indiana University forfurther studies with Prof. Franco Gulli where he received his PerformersDiploma. Shortly after Mr. Torgul joined the New World Symphony where he servedas Concertmaster under Michael Tilson Thomas for two seasons, and recorded,under Argo Label, “Defining Dahl. The Music of Ingolf Dahl.”
