Associate Principal
San Diego Symphony

Chia-Ling Chien has been Associate Principal Cello with the San Diego Symphony since 2009. She was born in Taipei, Taiwan and began playing the piano at the age of six and cello at the age of nine. Three years later, she first place in the National Taipei Youth Cello Competition. Ms. Chien has been awarded numerous awards and honors and is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music where she received both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. Her principal teachers are Desmond Hoebig, Stephen Geber, and Michael Mermagen. Her festival appearances include Pacific Music Festival, Blossom Music Festival; three-year fellowship at Aspen Music Festival and School; Sarasota Music Festival; Perlman Music Program (Chamber Music Workshop).
