I invite you to browse through web pages, at, to learn more about our extraordinary School of Music.  We are the first All-Steinway School in Virginia, with a full range of professional degree programs, ranging from the Bachelors of Music to the Doctor of Musical Arts.
The School of Music is highly selective, having auditioned 460 applicants for 110 places in our fall 2009 freshman class. The University itself drew more than 22,000 applications for its 2009 entering class of 4000.  This selectivity helps us fulfill our commitment to providing our students with an excellent comprehensive educational experience that is academically and musically challenging, supportive and enriching.
An exciting change for the fall 2010 semester is the completion of the 175,000 sf. Forbes Center for the Performing Arts, including a concert hall, recital hall, many more practice rooms, and additional classroom, rehearsal and office space.  Additionally, Forbes will house the entire School of Theatre and Dance
The School of Music has 45 FT and 15 PT faculty members, 400 undergraduate  and 55 graduate majors.
Each semester we maintain at least 25 ensembles, ranging from the world renown 425-member Marching Royal Dukes to various string trios and quartets; from the full symphony orchestra to a 20-piece jazz ensemble; from musical theatre to opera; from the University Choir to the chamber-size Madison Singers.  These groups join faculty, guest artists and individual students in building an annual concert calendar of more than 250 events. Please check our online concert calendar at for up-to-date information on these performances.
