Biography

Sidney Marquez Boquiren grew up in the Philippines and Saudi Arabia but has spent most of his life in the United States. Recently his works have focused on multi-disciplinary and multi-media collaborations, having completed projects that involve music for dance, film, and theater. As a Composer Fellow for American Opera Project’s Composers and the Voice Series (2011 – 2012) and in collaboration with librettist Daniel Neer, he has written representative arias for several different opera treatments as well as a full scene which was premiered in September 2012 with subsequent performances at the BEAT Festival in Brooklyn, NY. Spring 2013 featured the first performances of works written for QuadrATOMIC Saxophone Quartet and Jupiter String Quartet, as well as an unaccompanied choral work for women’s voices written for the 2013 National Conference Choirs Concert of the Organization of American Kodály Educators. Upcoming projects include a signature piece for the singers of RWO (July 2013) and a piece for two violins for Sarah Plum and Hal Grossman (October 2013).

 

Sidney is an Associate Professor at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, where he teaches music theory and composition.
