A native of China, Jennifer Zhou began her flute studies at the age of six. Jennifer has appeared as a soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra, Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, and “The President’s Own” Marine Band. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in October 2010 and was also featured in 2008 on National Public Radio’s “From the Top.” Jennifer was a member of the 2011 YouTube Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House and has been a substitute with the New World Symphony since 2010.  

Jennifer has garnered numerous awards and recognition such as being the only U.S. representative of six finalists in the 18th Jeunesses International Flute Competition held in Bucharest, Romania, Winner of the 2012 Eastman Flute Concerto Competition, Honorable Mention in the 2012 Eastern Connecticut Concerto Competition, Semi-Finalist of the 2011 Young Concert Artist International Auditions, 1st Prize in the 2010 Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, Winner of the 2010 Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and the “President’s Own” Marine Band Concerto Competition, Flute Winner in the 2010 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition, Young Arts Honorable Mention Award by the 2010 National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts, Finalist of the 2010 Astral Artist National Auditions, 1st Prize in the 2009 National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition, 1st Prize in the 2004 Music Teachers National Association Junior Woodwind Competition, and 1st Prize in the Central Ohio Flute Association Junior and Senior Competitions. 

Jennifer has studied with Beth Owen, NCTM, and Martha Aaron, freelance and former Second Flute of The Cleveland Orchestra. She has performed in masterclasses for renowned musicians such as Paul Edmund-Davies, Mindy Kaufman, Tal Perkes, Eugene Izotov, Renee Siebert, Sandra Miller, Christopher Krueger, Michael Lynn, Michel Debost, and Jim Walker. Jennifer has participated in music festivals such as Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Youth Orchestra of the Americas, Aspen Music Festival, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and the Kennedy Center’s National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute. Most recently, Jennifer was awarded fellowships to participate in Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, CA and Zermatt Festival in Switzerland this summer.

Jennifer is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Flute Performance and Arts Leadership Program Certificate as a Rogers Scholar at the Eastman School of Music where she studies with Bonita Boyd and Anne Harrow.
