Biography
[Oct.2010]

Justin is an Iowa native who is a senior at West High School in the vibrant university community of Iowa City, Iowa.

He began playing alto saxophone at age 10 with his teacher, Jane Williams of Coralville, Iowa. Also an accomplished piano player since age 5, Justin currently performs in West High's varsity show choir and plays lead alto in the top jazz band. He has studied with the Eugene Rousseau International Master Class at the University of Minnesota as well as the University of Iowa's Jazz Band Camp. And speaking of jazz, his Iowa City West High Jazz Band took top honors at the Iowa Jazz Championships his freshman and sophomore years; in his senior year they placed 2nd. He has been an Iowa High School Music Association All-State Band member since his freshman year and has been invited to sing in the Iowa State University Honor Choir since his sophomore year. During his junior year he played the role of Danny Zucko in West High's rendition of Grease.

On NPR's
From the Top (Show #220 at the Adler Theatre in Davenport, IA), Justin performs the second movement from Lamento et Rondo by Pierre Sancan, accompanied by host Christopher O’Riley on the piano. As a bonus, he reenacts a previous American Idol audition.

Justin also plays soprano sax and acoustic guitar. In his free time, he likes to compose piano music, sing in an a'capella group that has perfomed at the Iowa State Fair, play soccer, and conduct home science experiments -- including building a hovercraft with a leaf blower and engineering rocket powered cars and airplanes.

Justin lives with his parents, younger sister, and two cats -- Sophie and Milo.  In the future, he hopes to be a scientist by day and a musician by night.
