American soprano Alison McConekey was a 2009 first place district winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She was recently awarded OperaOnline's "Best Performance by a Comprimario Female" for her performance of "Inez" in Opera North's Il Trovatore. Critic Paul Joseph Walkowski stated, "Ms. McConekey gave a solid performance both vocally and visually... and displayed confidence with a fluid singing style and poise as a center stage performer. Brava!"
Other recent credits include "Mimi" (La Boheme) with the Center Stage Opera, "Contessa Almaviva" (Le Nozze di Figaro) with the Eastern Festival Opera, "Violetta" (cover, La Traviata, also with EFO), "First Lady" (Die Zauberfloete, Downtown Symphony, NY), "Lady Billows" (cover, Albert Herring, Opera North), "Gertrude" (Hansel and Gretel), "Micaela" (Carmen), "Anna Glawari" (The Merry Widow), and "Donna Anna" (Don Giovanni).
She has appeared with the Center for Contemporary Opera (NY) in the world staged premiere of Vera of Las Vegas, and as a recurring member of Opera North's Young Artist Program. Most recently, Alisont was heard at Bel Canto at Caramoor (NY), as a member of the 2010 Caramoor Bel Canto Apprentice Program.
Ms. McConekey completed her operatic studies at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music (MM, Opera), and studied abroad at the Academie Internationale d'Ete de Nice.
