Biography

Soprano Alexandra Whitfield possesses an agile voice lending to styles ranging from Baroque to contemporary American art songs.  Particularly passionate about art songs, Alexandra presents recitals in the Boston area, performs for assisted living facilities, and premiered some commissioned works in 2014. Alexandra earned her Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and music at Georgetown University and received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in May 2014.  Winner of the 2013 Concerto Competition at Longy and the Roman Totenberg Award for stellar academic and artistic achievement and deep commitment to the art of music, Alexandra excelled during her time at Longy.  Always bringing graceful artistry to her performances, she received second place in NEMPAC’s vocal competition and was a prize winner in the Massachusetts bi-annual NATS competition.    

 

She has participated in various master classes and festivals including and involving Sondra Kelly, Mirror Visions Ensemble, the Boston Early Music Festival, the Norfolk Summer Music Festival and the Franz Schubert Institut in Vienna Austria. Alexandra is a member of Cantata Singers in Boston and has studied with Karyl Ryczek for four years.
