Franz Schubert, Composer
(1797-1828). Schubert's lifespan of just 31 years is the shortest of any major composer, and yet he emerged as a key transitional figure between the classical and romantic eras. He wrote important symphonies, piano sonatas, choral works, and all kinds of chamber music, but his 600 exquisite songs are his greatest legacy. Any list of his important works would be long and would have to include his Symphonies no 5, 8 (Unfinished), 9 (Great C major), his "Trout" Quintet, the "Wanderer" Fantasy...
