The last event associated with the Merz Prize in music composition, awarded to composer Geoffrey Gordon in 2018-19, takes place later this month in Sicily, where the world premiere of his new double string quartet, after Paul ÉLUARD's landmark surrealist poem, La terre est bleue comme une orange, will take place as a museum installation, at the Museo archeologico regionale “Antonino Salinas”, Palermo, on 19 May 2019.

The Minnesota Orchestra performance of Geoffrey Gordon's new bass clarinet concerto, Prometheus, will be broadcast by Minnesota Public Radio, on Friday, 25 April, 2019, with soloist Tim Zavadil and conductor Osmo Vanska. Prometheus was co-commissioned by the Minnesota Orchestra, in co-operation with the Philharmonia (London) and the Malmo Symphony (Sweden).

Composer Geoffrey Gordon has been named a prize winner in the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group's Wilde Lieder Marx.Music competition. Gordon's Harmonie, a setting of an early, romantic text by political theorist Karl Marx, will premiere in Marx hometown, Trier, Germany, and at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham, England on September 1 and 4, 2018. Scored for soprano and solo cello, performances will feature celebrated soloist, Elizabeth Atherton.

The Muse-IC Project, founded by the "University Paris Sciences et Letters" and hosted by the Institut Curie, with the cooperation of the CNSM (Conservatory of Paris), commissions composer Geoffrey Gordon to write a new chamber work inspired by research into the first vibrations of the universe. Held every two years, the Mario Merz Prize, was established with the intent of identifying and bringing to the public eye personalities in the field of art and contemporary music, through the expertise of a large international network of experts. Geoffrey Gordon's FATHOMS: Five Impressions of Shakespeare's The Tempest (with Prelude) for cello and piano will receive its UK premiere on 8 May 2017, at historic St John's Smith Square, in London. Cellist Toke Moldrup, for whom the work was commissioned, and pianist Steven Beck, will reprise their Carnegie Hall performance (praised by the New York Times) of FATHOMS on a program which includes works by Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
