The "new" music is a quarter of a century old, give or take a little. A whole generation of youth has grown up accustomed to its hard beat, liberated emotionalism, and diverse social messages. A whole new lifestyle has been evolved, if not because of it, certainly in intimate interaction with it. One cannot imagine the culture of students (described at in their projects) and pop, psychodelics, underground press, social protest, and the like without the new music pulsing through it all.
