The Festival Sinfonia, comprised of select Festival Orchestra musicians, performs an intimate concert of beloved orchestral works for smaller ensemble. J.S. Bach’s cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen!—one of the most famous cantatas ever composed—begins the program. The first half also features one of Tchaikovsky’s best known works, his lyrical Serenade for Strings. For the concert’s second half, the Sinfonia pairs with the Festival Chorus to perform two harmonically stunning works by famed choral composer Ola Gjeilo, as well as the exultant Benedicite by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
