Classical 107's Claudia Garcia de la Huerta sat down with the former Tokyo String Quartet violinist who is in Winnipeg to perform in Winnipeg's International Recital & Chamber Music Concert Series, Virtuosi. Martin is part of a special chamber ensemble called OCTAGON. Made up of the who's who of the Canadian classical music world, Octagon comes alive every year with different leading instrumentalists to present two seminal chamber works for large ensemble - Beethoven's Septet in E flat major, Op. 20 and Schubert's Octet in F major. So who are the other 7 performers? . . .cellist Rachel Mercer, clarinetist James Campbell, Rivka Golani is on viola, Joe Phillips is on double bass, Kathleen McLean is on bassoon, Ken MacDonald is in French Horn and accompanying Martin on violin is Mark Fewer. Octagon perform Saturday night (March 21) at the University of Winnipeg. The concert is sold out!
