Sonny Burgess may not be as famous as some other artists who recorded for Sun Records in the '50s, but in Memphis he's remembered by fans from that time as one of the hottest acts of all. And on this sweltering hot & humid Memphis night of July 30, 2010, the elder rockabilly and his band outlasted everybody else in this Tribute to the Birthplace of Rock & Roll. The event celebrated the anniversary of Elvis Presley's legendary debut on this same stage in 1954 when he "stole the show" from Slim Whitman. The historic Overton Park Shell was fully renovated in 2008 to become the Levitt Shell thanks to the Mortimer Levitt Foundation which is dedicated to preserving and promoting amphitheaters nationwide with programs that foster cultural and community development.
