It was rare to see Larry "Gimmer" Nicholson fronting a group like this. He was best known as a guitarist on recording sessions or in performances led by others (he also played bass on tour with a Ry Cooder-led band that backed Arlo Guthrie). He recorded one solo instrumental album called "Christopher Idylls" that was "new age" before there was such a thing. For this appearance Gimmer called on three fellow veterans of the Memphis group "Crawpatch": Brandy Parks on guitar and vocals, Jimmy Crosthwait on washboard and jungle drums, and Jimmy Newman on mandolin. The "Memphis Medicine Show", sponsored by Save Our Shell, Inc., was a series of live radio broadcasts over WEVL-FM from the stage of the Overton Park Shell for two years in the late '80s. The historic amphitheater was fully renovated in 2008 thanks to a generous grant from the Mortimer Levitt Foundation and the renamed Levitt Shell now sponsors 50 free concerts every year devoted to developing community through the performing ar
