Kinga Augustyn, Violin Performed as part of the Queens New Music Festival on May 16, 2019 at The Secret Theatre in NYC, the Caprice No. 1 subtitled "Lipinski" was composed in 1990 by the Polish composer Piotr Drozdzewski (b. 1948). Much like Borodin in the nineteenth century, Drozdzewski followed another profession while at the same time pursuing a successful career as a composer. In addition to a music degree, he has earned a doctorate degree in chemistry from the University of Technology in Wroclaw, where he later became a professor of chemistry. His virtuosic and technically challenging "Lipinski" Caprice has clearly been clearly influenced by Karol Lipinski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 subtitled “militaire”. For instance, it uses the rhythm of that concerto. Videography by Adele Dusenbury.
