NEC Jazz Orchestra – George Schuller "MBS"

Drummer George Schuller, a New England Conservatory alumnus and son of former NEC President Gunther Schuller, composed "MBS" in memory of his mother, Marjorie Black Schuller. "MBS" harkens strongly back to George's years leading the formative Boston jazz ensemble Orange The Blue. The NEC Jazz Orchestra performs, conducted by Ken Schaphorst, with featured soloists Dominico Botelho, double bass, Samantha Spear, alto saxophone, and Daniel Hirsch, trumpet. George Schuller is on drums. This performance took place in NEC's Jordan Hall on December 5, 2019, as part of an NEC Jazz50 program celebrating Gunther Schuller and the 50th anniversary of the innovative jazz program he founded at NEC in 1969.
