Saturday, March 24, 2012 Maximiano Valdes, conductor Joshua Bell, violin The BPO welcomes the return of the incomparable violinist Joshua Bell and our own dear friend Maximiano Valdes, BPO Music Director from 1989-1998. Hailed by the Boston Globe as "the greatest American violinist active today," Mr. Bell performs as soloist in the Beethoven Violin Concerto, one of the most important works of the violin repertoire. Maestro Valdes leads the ensemble and conducts Schumann's Symphony No. 4. Maximiano Valdés is Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Puerto Rico Symphony and Artistic Director of the famed Festival Casals in San Juan. He recently ended a 16 year tenure as Music Director of the Orquesta Sinfonica del Principado de Asturias in Spain and was named the orchestra's Conductor Laureate.
